When you first start to play the Mario games, you can be a bit scared of what you may run into next. You have bricks falling from the ceiling, ghosts chasing you and little walking bombs blowing up next to you. It is those walking bombs, known as Bob-Ombs, that I always found hilarious and fun, even if they were blowing me up. They are in almost every game in the series, but I loved SMB 2 where you could pick them up and toss them around, even if they had been tossed at you.
On the surface, many people think that Bob-Ombs are a simple side character, but if you look closely, you can see how prominent they are in the game and how Mario just wouldn’t be the same without them. They are on almost every level of the first few SMB games and I hope they are a big part of the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy 2 game, too. What I want to see is some Bob-Ombs that are sick and tired of getting bossed around by Bowser and decide to join Mario instead. That would be a sight to see and a wonderful way to kick off a brand new journey.
