When I first started playing the Super Mario Galaxy game, I was actually pretty bored at first. I thought that we were just going to be introduced to the same characters that we’ve played for so long now. But then I got a shock when I met Rosalina. Rosalina was a great character and was someone that I really want to get to know more about for so many different reasons.
First of all she’s got a great back story. We don’t hear much about the characters back story in these games– for instance, when is the last time you learned about the Hammer Bros and how they came to be, or even Princess Peach’s history? But with Rosalina we learn all about the tragedy in her past and how hard it’s been for her to deal with. It made me actually have to fight back a few tears when the story played, and for those who haven’t played the Galaxy game, you definitely need to take the time to listen to Rosalina’s story.
The Mario world doesn’t have enough women, in my opinion, and maybe that’s because I’m a woman. We’ve got Peach, Daisy, and that’s about it. Rosalina is a welcome addition. She’s not only a powerful woman, she’s very smart and wise, and yet she doesn’t look like an old hag or something. Rosalina has got this grace and beauty that is a very good example for children who are playing the game. She’s also extremely beautiful to look at for guys out there who love animated characters.
I hope that we’ll see Rosalina in many more Mario games, simply because she’s amazing. I love playing her in the Mario Kart game and I really hope that she pops back up, and that we get to hear a great deal more about her, in the new Super Mario Galaxy game that’s coming out. Who knows – maybe Mario will even fall for Rosalina instead of Peach! I don’t see him having to save Rosalina, however, as she saves herself pretty well!
